[English] The Small Plantation, the River and the Steps – Indigenous School Meals in Alto Solimões
The documentary was shot in the community of Belém do Solimões, in the Eware 1 Indigenous Land, in Tabatinga (AM). It brings day-to-day reports in the municipal indigenous schools (EMIs) Eware Mowatcha and Ngetchutchu Ya Mecü, where local production has its space, but school meals are scarce or lacking at various times.
The interviews also tell about the work of Mapana, an association of Tikuna women, with collective swiddens and training, which already has more than 200 members.Made by FIAN Brasil with the producer Extrato de Cinema, the film documents initiatives to comply with two guidelines of the National School Meals Program (Pnae): adapting the menu to the culture of each community; and priority for indigenous family farmers in supply.
The testimonies of teachers, cooks, rural producers and students also show obstacles such as the bureaucracy that makes documentation difficult, the lack of structure in the kitchens and the advance of ultra-processed food products, with the diseases associated with the increase in their consumption.
